Every year, Gandhi Jayanti is commemorated on 2 October throughout the nation. This day is not only remembered as the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, but it is also the birthday of Lal Bahadur Shastri. On this day, everybody is seen in a different color, be it common or special. 1. Gandhi – Richard Attenborough’s film ‘Gandhi’ on the life of Mahatma Gandhi in the year 1982 is honored with Oscar Award. In this film, Mahatma Gandhi was played by Hollywood actor Ben Kinsley. The film ‘Gandhi’ won 8 Oscars. This film is one of the best films made on Gandhiji’s life. In this movie, actors like Amrish Puri, Om Puri, Rohini Huttangani and Rajit Kapoor performed strong performances. This movie featured the Champaran movement of Bihar.

2. Hey Ram – The film ‘Hey Ram’ starring Naseeruddin Shah was released in the year 2000. In this, Naseeruddin Shah played Gandhi’s role. The film was directed by Kamal Haasan. ‘Hey Ram’ is based on the riots that followed the partition of the country and the subsequent assassination of Gandhiji. The film featured actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Atul Kulkarni, Rani Mukherjee, Girish Karnad and Ompuri.

3.The Making of the Mahatma- This film depicts the entire story from Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi to Bapu becoming Mahatma. It shows what Gandhiji saw during his stay in Britain and Africa and what changed in his life. In this film, Rajit Kapoor played the character of Mahatma Gandhi.

4. Gandhi, My Father – National Award Winner film ‘Gandhi, My Father’ was released in the year 2007. The film featured Akshaye Khanna, Darshan Jariwala, Bhumika Chawla and Shefali Shah in pivotal roles. The producer of this film is Anil Kapoor. The film is based on Gandhi’s elder son Harilal Gandhi. It showed the difference in thinking and thoughts between the two.

5. Lage Raho Munna Bhai- This film is completely based on ‘Gandhigiri’. The meaning is shown in this film on how to follow their objectives. The film stars Sanjay Dutt in the lead role.
