Worldwide this day commemorate to lionize to our beloved guru. UNESCO in 1994 proclaimed World Teachers’ Day. Which celebrate on fifth October every year. When we do show our gratitude to the Gurus, in India Guru Purnima is such day. 1962 onwards in India we celebrate the day on 5th September. That day is birthday of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. Who was the 2nd President of India to venerate teachers.

Teachers’ Day celebrate on the occasion of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan’s birthday (September 5). He was a great teacher. Along with this, he was also the first Vice-President and second President of independent India. Born on 5 September 1888 in a Brahmin family in Tirumani village, Tamil Nadu. Radhakrishnan awarded by India’s highest civilian honor Bharat Ratna in 1954.
 
From 1909 till June, 1926 he served many institutions as teacher of Philosophy. ie.Madras Presidency College, University of Mysore and even University of Calcutta. In 1929 he invited to take post of Principal at Manchester College. There he got a chance to pass lecture on Comparative Religious beliefs to the students of Oxford University. He was the Vice Chancellor of Andhra University from 1931 to 1936. In 1937 he nominated for the prestigious prize, “Nobel Prize” for Literature. Although this nomination process, as for all laureates, was not public at the time. In 1939 Pt. Madan Mohan Malaviya invited him to take post as Vice Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University (till 1948).
 
Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan did not have a background in the Congress Party. Neither did he join the struggle for the independence. He was a politician in shadow. He represented India at UNESCO from 1946 to 1952 as well as he designated as an Ambassador of India and next Soviet Union from 1949 to 1952. In 1952 he was chose as the Vice President of India. He was elect as President of India in 1962.

There is a story behind celebrating Teacher’s Day on 5 September. Throughout his whole life he had many students who came in touch with his great knowledge. Once Dr. Radhakrishnan’s students approached him to give permission to celebrate his birthday as special day. He told them that, rather celebrating his birthday, if you celebrate the day by honoring the teachers. Whom contribution and dedication in the field of education. then I will be most happy. In honor of his wish, Teachers’ Day celebrate on September 5 every year across the country.
 

How to Celebrate Teacher’s day

 
On this Day, students hold different activities to amuse teachers at colleges as well as institutions. Such as vocal singing competition, dancing competition, recitation of rhymes, mimicry of teachers. Plan a picnic, offer gifts and at last, they say thanks to them by revealing their gratitude.

Teacher’s Day 2020 celebration in India
 
To celebrate Teacher’s Day 2020, the UGC and Ministry of Education will organize webinars on different styles. Also initiatives on the lately adopted new National Education Policy, or NEP 2020.
 
The commission said that, it will campaigns on social media sites on September 5. The campaigns is a part of Teachers’ Day celebrations.
 
On this day, UGC plan to run campaigns on various social media sites.
 
UGC asked institutions to organize programs by maintaining social distancing protocols. To honor retired teachers via video conferencing. Who have made “significant contributions in the growth and development of students and the institution”.
 
The commission told the institutions to upload information of the celebrations at the University activity on Website. You can see in University Activity Monitoring Portal.
 
On Teachers’ Day 2020, the Education Ministry will also provide National Award To them to honor the greatest teachers in the country.
