12 July History: On 12 July 1997, Malala Yusufzai, who was awarded the Nobel, was born in Pakistan, while the very first steam engineered ship ‘Diana’ built in India was also introduced in Kolkata.

The day of July 12 is a witness to lots of important events in history. The ban troubled the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) after the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi in January 1948 by Nathuram Godse was conditionally raised on the day of 12 July 1949.

1290 – Jews are driven out on the orders of Edward I, Emperor of England.
1346 – Charles IV of Luxembourg is appointed ruler of the Roman Empire.
1673 – Defense treaty signed between Netherlands and Denmark.
1690 – Protestants defeated the Roman Catholic Army under the leadership of William of Orange.
1801 – Britain defeats France and Spain at the Battle of Algeciras.
1823 – Launch of the first steam engine ship ‘Diana’ built in India at Calcutta (now Kolkata).
1862 – US Congress authorizes the Medal of Honor.
1912 – ‘Queen Elizabeth’ becomes the first foreign film to be released in the US.
1918 – 500 people killed in an explosion in a Japanese warship in the Gulf of Tokayam.
1935 – Belgium recognizes the then Soviet Union.
1949 – Ban on RSS conditionally lifted after Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination.

1997: Birth of Malala Yusufzai with Nobel Prize in Pakistan.

2001: Start of ‘Maitri’ bus service between Agartala to Dhaka.
