The scriptures hold the holiest position in every religion. Like the Gita in Hindus, the Quran in Muslims, the Guru Granth Sahib in Sikhs is a revered holy book like the Bible in Christians. August 27 is of special importance in the history of Sikhs. In fact, Guru Granth Sahib was established on this day in 1604 at Harmandir Sahib, Amritsar, the most revered for Sikhs.

The sequence of some other important events recorded on the date of August 27 in the history of the country and the world is as follows-

1781: Hyder Ali fought the Battle of Pallilor against the British Army.

1870: Workers’ Union was established as India’s first trade union.

1907: Birth of cricket’s Surma Sir Don George Bradman.

1939: The world’s first jet fuel jet made its first flight from Germany.

1950: BBC broadcasts live for the first time in the history of television world.

1985: The coup of Major General Muhammad Buhari’s government in the military revolution in Nigeria. General Ibrahim Babangida became the new military ruler.

1990: The US expels 36 of the 55 employees of the Iraqi Embassy in Washington.

1991: Maldova declared independence from the Soviet Union.

1999: India released the Pakistani prisoners of war captured during the Kargil conflict.

1999: Sonali Banerjee became India’s first female Marine Engineer.

2003: Mars reached the nearest Earth after a gap of 60 thousand years.

2004: Pakistan’s Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz took over as the Prime Minister of the country.

2018: Neeraj Chopra of India won the gold medal in the men’s javelin throwing event of the Jakarta Asian Games.

2018: Airline carrier SpiceJet operated the country’s first bio-jet fuel-fired test flight.
