Bengal Congress President Somen Mitra died late at night. His health was poor for the last several days. Mitra was suffering from various ailments and was also undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kolkata where he breathed his last at around 1.30 pm on Thursday. Mitra was 78 years old.
Hospital sources said that Mitra was admitted to the hospital a few days ago due to kidney disease. However he died due to cardiac arrest. His corona test was also conducted, its test report came negative.
The Bengal Congress has deeply mourned the death of Somen Mitra. The tweet from the Twitter account of the West Bengal Congress said, ‘WBPCC President Somen Mitra has breathed his last some time ago. This is a big loss for us. Our prayers and thoughts are with the grandfather’s family. ‘ Let me tell you that veteran Congress leader and former Lok Sabha MP Somen Mitra was born on 31 December 1941. Mitra was earlier in the Trinamool Congress and rejoined the Congress a few years ago. He was appointed as state president after Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary resigned as state Congress president.
The news of the death of Somen Mitra has been shared by the West Bengal Congress through its Twitter handle. Somen Mitra was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kolkata and it was reported on Sunday that there had been some improvement in his health. The doctor had told, ‘His health is improving but due to kidney disease his creatinine level is still increased. His heart condition is also weak, but out of danger. At the moment, he is no longer in this world.
