58 more people have been arrested in connection with the violence that took place in Bangalore’s DJ Halli and KG Halli areas in the past. A total of 52 cases have been registered against him in riots, looting, arson and other sections of IPC including destruction of public properties. On the other hand, Section-144 (prohibitory orders) applicable in violence affected areas has been extended till August 18 i.e. on Tuesday morning.
Bengaluru East Deputy Commissioner of Police SD Sharanappa said on Sunday, ‘We have arrested 58 accused since Friday. So far 264 accused have been arrested in the riot case. The main accused are in our custody and we are interrogating them. The remaining accused have been sent to judicial custody for 14 days. They have been lodged in the jails of the city and Bellary. Earlier, the police arrested Kalim Pasha, husband of Congress councilor Irshad Begum of Nagavara, for inciting a riot.

The fourth accused died during treatment
There was widespread violence in the area on Tuesday night over the Facebook post of Naveen, nephew of Congress MLA Akhand Srinivas Murthy, from Pulakeshinagar assembly seat in Karnataka. People of particular community burnt the house of MLA Srinivas. DJ Halli police station was also targeted. Many people, including more than 50 policemen, were injured in the violence. Police had to fire in order to control the rioters, in which three people were killed. Syed Nadeem (24), who was injured by the tear gas released by the police, also died during treatment on Saturday. He was sent to judicial custody after the riots and was undergoing treatment at a government hospital. He had a stomach injury.
