Dr. James Naismith
Google has recalled Canadian-American teacher Doctor James Naismith, who started basketball.

Google always remembers big figures through its doodles. On January 15, Google has made a doodle in the name of Dr. James Naismith, who invented the game ‘basketball’ in 1981.

Dr. J. Naismith born on 6 November 1861 near the town of Almonte in Ontario, Canada. He graduated from McGill University in Physical Education. In 1890, he worked as a trainer at the YMCA International Training College in Springfield, Massachusetts. During this time, he got the task of preparing an indoor game. He started playing with a football ball and with some rules.

On 21 December 1891, Naismith started the game with nine players for the first time involved in the Olympics. Its rules were incorporated from football and field hockey. After this game became very popular. In 1936, basketball was included in the Berlin Olympics for the first time.

In the initial stages, this game was played in places like Berlin, America, Germany etc. But over time, it gained popularity and is played today in hundreds of countries. Google has expressed respect for James Naismith by making a doodle in his doodle.

The game has similarities with hockey and American football. It was seen as way of living life by Naismith. He saw Basketball as a way for students to better themselves physically and mentally.

Become a Global Game
Naismith introduced basketball for all students to improve themselves physically and mentally. The game was introduced at a time when schools were separated, but Naismith saw everyone with sporting potential. Initially this game was started in a gym which is played today on a global level. Let us tell you that Basketball is a sport played in more than 200 countries. During his lifetime, he took steps to help basketball reach more young people.

Dr. Naismith apart from being a professor and a coach, indulged himself in many other professions. He was a doctor, a physical educator and a Christian Chaplain as well.

How a game that was invented to stay away from cold, became a global phenomenon, having a worldwide following and most popular sporting league in the world in NBA, has more than something to give its due to the one who originated it in the first place. In 1959, Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame was brought to life, at the very place where it was first invented by the man.
