In Santiniketan, West Bengal’s Birbhum district, unrest has arisen since Monday morning on the direction of the Shantiniketan Trust and the Vishwabharati management to surround the playground on the court’s instructions. The locals have strongly opposed this. They vandalized and demolished the newly constructed walls. Poush fair is held every year in this ground. Local people say that their livelihood is attached to it.
Let us tell you that the court has banned the organization of Poush Mela regarding environmental pollution. Nearly 100 bighas of land were opened in Shanti Niketan, where there was no restriction. A fair was held on this ground. The Pausha Mela is held on the ground and Rs. 61 lakh has been sanctioned for the construction of the premises around it. It is held every year. The locals use the ground for morning walks.

Visva-Bharati University administration started construction of a wall last week which is opposed by the local people. This wall is being constructed near a fair ground, against which local people demonstrated in the university campus. Even the protesters broke many historical structures.
According to the information, the protesters have also damaged the JCB machine standing nearby. So far, the wall that was built, has been broken by the locals. Also, all the structures in that area were shattered by the protesters. Thousands of locals gathered on the university campus, which broke many historical structures. The brick and cement laid to build the wall were lifted and thrown away. This wall is being constructed to prevent people from outside the university campus.
