Srinagar, Contact with five security personnel, including two military officers, and other jawans have been lost during the ongoing encounter since Saturday morning in the forests of Handwara in Kupwara district of North Kashmir. It is feared that the security personnel are trapped in the same house from where the terrorists are firing. Since then, security forces have launched a massive operation to save the soldiers. Earlier, two terrorists were killed and one jawan was injured in the encounter.
Encounter in Chanjmula village
The encounter is going on at Chhanjmula village in Handwara. The officials concerned said that a group of Lashkar militants had been seen in the forests of Rajwar for the past few days. Among them, Hyder’s famous divisional commander Haider is also being mentioned. If sources are to be believed, Hyder came with his comrades to pick up a new squad of terrorists from across the LoC. However, the security agencies have not confirmed this fact.
Four to five terrorist circles
Security forces launched a campaign to catch the terrorists on Friday. A brief encounter between militants and jawans also took place on Friday night in Nagni jungle, but the terrorists escaped after breaking the siege. The soldiers continued to chase the terrorists and on Saturday afternoon they surrounded the terrorists in the village of Chanjmula. The number of terrorists is said to be four to five. The encounter started at around three in the afternoon. The terrorists were hiding in a house.
Wounded in an encounter
It is said that the firing from the terrorists stopped at around 5:30 pm. The body of a terrorist has been seen lying on the ground outside the house. During this time, a young man is also injured by a bullet in his hand. At present, the security forces are taking on the terrorists with full force. It is worth noting that in recent times, terrorist activities have increased in Jammu and Kashmir.
Young men entered the house in search of terrorists
When there was no firing from the terrorists for about an hour, the officers and soldiers started searching the encounter site, considering them dead. During this time, five soldiers entered the house while searching. It is being told that the terrorists started firing again. Due to this, the encounter started again and contact was lost with the five soldiers who entered the house.
The work of evacuating the troops continues
An official said that we are trying to evacuate our soldiers. There is heavy firing from both sides. At the same time, the military spokesman says that the operation to kill the terrorists is going on. He said that speculations should be avoided until we release anything officially.
Two terrorists also killed in Pulwama
In Dangarpora, Pulwama, security forces conducted a search operation at six in the morning on the information about the hiding of the terrorists. Seeing themselves surrounded, the terrorists broke the siege and started fleeing while firing on the security forces. The soldiers also retaliated. With this, the encounter started. During this time mischievous elements started throwing stones at the security forces.
Chance to surrender
It is said that the terrorists were given many opportunities to surrender. Two terrorists were killed in the encounter which continued till noon. His hideout house was completely destroyed. Three other houses suffered partial damage. The slain terrorists could not be identified, but according to sources, they may be Tariq Ahmed Sheikh of Jaish-e-Muhammad and Sahil Abdullah of Hizbul Mujahideen.
Grenade attack on CRPF gypsy, jawan injured
At Tahab Chowk in Pulwama, the terrorists threw a grenade at the gypsy of the soldiers of the 183rd Corps of the CRPF at seven in the evening. The grenade exploded with some loud bang from the gypsy. In this, Suman Pradhan, constable of CRPF was injured. The entire area is under siege and search operation to catch the terrorists. Significantly, in the last 12 days, 20 terrorists have been killed in Kashmir.
