New Delhi. The Government of India is currently stuck in a catch-22 situation. On the one hand, it also wants to provide hydroxychloroquine, a malaria drug that is considered important in combating Kovid-19 (corona virus) on the basis of humanity, but seeing the way the domestic situation is changing. It also does not want to take risks by opening its exports. On the other hand, at least 30 countries including the US, Brazil have demanded to supply this medicine from India. The government is currently in talks with the drug manufacturers to increase the production of this drug rapidly, although the authorities are accepting that it is not possible to increase production in a hurry.
Many countries including America and Brazil sought help from PM
US President Donald Trump’s telephone conversation with PM Narendra Modi two days ago urged him to export the chloroquine drug. Later, Trump also said, “We have opened up the export of hydrochlorchloroquine from Modi to the drug used in the treatment of malaria.” This drug is made on a large scale in India. This drug is also effective in the treatment of corona. Modi has said that he will seriously consider it. Hours after Trump’s statement, Brazilian President JM Bolsonaro also tweeted that, “He has spoken to Indian PM Narendra Modi and urged India to continue supplying hydrachloroquine.” We do not want to leave any stone unturned to save the lives of people.
American doctors told Indian medicine useful
Indian officials say that apart from America, Brazil, 30 European and Asian countries have demanded this medicine from India. It also includes neighboring countries. In fact, ever since American doctors have said that this drug used in malaria is effective for the treatment of corona, its demand has increased. On the other hand, India first wants to ensure that it is available to its 135 crore population. Therefore, its exports were completely banned on Saturday. Even exports from the Special Economic Zone have been banned. Till now the companies which had taken the advance amount were allowed to export, but now it is also prohibited. The reason behind this is that the government is still trying to properly assess how much the production capacity of this drug in India and how much it can be made in an emergency situation.
India can fulfill the need of the whole world in ordinary days
Sources in the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry say that roughly four companies in India manufacture Ipca, Mangalam, White Health Care and Zider Cadila. It mainly consists of a raw material called 47 dichloroquinoline and a different product called EMME is used to make it. India is mainly dependent on China for EMMEs. Roughly at a time, India has 60–80 tonnes of raw material to jointly make hydrochlorchloroquine, from which it can produce 200 million tablets. In ordinary days it is enough to meet the needs of the world as well as India. But India is not even able to meet the demand of all the countries. Also, you have to take care of the citizens of your country and the possible emergency situation here.
