Chunni Goswami, the great former footballer of India, died of a heart attack on Thursday. He was 82. He breathed his last at a hospital in Kolkata. He is survived by his wife and son Sudipto. Let us tell you that Goswami was the captain of the gold medal-winning team in 1962 Asian Games and also played first-class cricket for Bengal. The family source told PTI that he suffered a heart attack and died in the hospital at around 5 pm.
He was suffering from diabetes, prostrate, and nervous system-related diseases. Goswami played 50 matches for India between 1956 and 1964 as a footballer. As a cricketer, he represented Bengal in 46 first-class matches between 1962 and 1973.

Born in undivided Bengal’s Kishoreganj district (present-day Bangladesh), Goswami’s original name was Subimal but he was known only by his nickname. He played 50 international matches for India from 1956 to 1964, including the Rome Olympics. As a cricketer, he represented Bengal in 46 first-class matches between 1962 and 1973.
Goswami, PK Banerjee, and Tulsidas Balaram were part of the glorious forward line of Indian football’s golden period when India was the football superpower in Asia. He was awarded the Arjuna Award in 1963 and the Padma Shri in 1983. Bharti Postal Department released a special stamp on his 82nd birthday in January for his contribution to Indian football. Goswami played his entire life for the same club Mohun Bagan from where he retired in 1968. He was the captain of the team for five seasons and became Mohun Bagan Ratna in 2005.
