Born in undivided Bengal’s Kishoreganj district (present-day Bangladesh), Goswami’s original name was Subimal but he was known only by his nickname. He played 50 international matches for India from 1956 to 1964, including the Rome Olympics. As a cricketer, he represented Bengal in 46 first-class matches between 1962 and 1973.
