The Mahalaya Amavasya is the day that marks ending of the Pitru Paksha period and the beginning of the Devi Paksha. However, this year, the Shardiya Navratri committed to Devi Durga will be prolonged by about a month owing to the Adhik Maas (leap month in the Hindu calendar). Usually, the Devi Paksha starts with Mahalaya Amavasya, however in 2020, the nine-day long festival will be celebrated a month later on. Mahalaya Amavasya 2020 date and timings.
