The theme of Suicide Prevention Day:
Every year, a different theme is opted for World Suicide Prevention Day. The aims of the theme is to focus on a specific factor of suicide. World Suicide Prevention Day Theme for 2020 is “working together to prevent suicide”. It also similar theme of World Suicide Prevention Day 2019. This theme intends to make suicide prevention much more effective around the world.
Theme of 2003 was “suicide can be prevented”.
Theme of 2012 was “suicide prevention across the globe: strengthening protective factors and instilling hope”.
Theme of 2016 theme was “connect, communicate, care”.
These themes each year concentrate on a specific aspect to strengthen it.

Strategies to prevent suicides
- We need to reach people who don’t seek help, and hence, don’t get treatment when they want it.
- We must develop and apply awareness campaigns. Purpose of campaign raising awareness of suicidal behaviors in the community.
- We require to target our efforts to reduce risk factors. Not only reduce risk factors but also to enhance protective element. Especially in childhood, teens and the elderly.
- We need to train health care professionals to much better understand evidence-based risk. Also protective factors associated with suicidal behavior.
