Legendary playback singer SP Balasubrahmanyam died on September 25 at the age of 74. His mortal remains to his farmhouse in Chennai, and there he will be laid to rest. MGM Healthcare in Chennai said that despite topmost life support efforts, the singer died of a cardio-respiratory arrest. He passed away on September 25 at 1:04 pm. The singer had been admitted at MGM Healthcare since August 5 after found positive for coronavirus. On September 5, He tested negative for Covid-19. Common people as well as members of the film industries together had organize mass prayers wishing for his healing while he was in the hospital. From Kamal Haasan to Rajinikanth, celebrities all over India had sent their well wishes for the Tamil singer. As news of his death broke, musician AR Rahman, singers Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle mourned his loss. PM Narendra Modi said with the death of SP Balasubrahmanyam, our cultural world is a lot poorer.

The legendary playback singer S.P. Balasubrahmanyam is no more. Popularly known as SPB, he made his singing debut in 1966 with Telugu movie Sri Sri Sri Maryada Ramanna.

Few singers could rival him in popularity. Fewer were as versatile. Still fewer were as prolific. He sang over 40,000 songs in different languages in different eras of Indian cinema.
